Ted Lee Rasmussen, 83, of Idaho Falls, passed away November 19, 2023, at his home. He was under the care of Brio Health and Hospice and Nuclear Care Partners.
Ted was born July 18, 1940, in Ridgefield, Washington, to Theodore Rasmussen and Joan Anderson Rasmussen. He grew up and attended schools in Ridgefield, and graduated from Ridgefield High School in 1958. After graduation, he married Virginia "Ginny" Deschand also from Ridgefield. In the fall of 1958, Ted and Ginny moved to Corvallis, Oregon, where Ted attended Oregon State University, graduating in 1962 with a Bachelor's degree of Mechanical Engineering.
After graduation, they moved to Idaho Falls, where Ted worked at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory (INEL). During Ted’s 33 years at the INEL, responsibilities included reactor operations, project engineering, and program management.
During Ted’s first year at the INEL, he met two local young men who also had a passion for fishing. The three men became inseparable, and were nicknamed the “Three Amigos''. The Three Amigos fly fished the South and North forks of the Snake River for nearly 50 years. His other fishing buddies he loved fishing with were his two sons, Greg, and Clint, and grandson, AJ.
Ted was an athlete in high school, and as an adult officiated high school football and basketball for many years. He was an avid golfer. Ted spent many hours tying thousands of flies to catch “that big one”.
Ted was a lifetime member of Idaho Falls Elks lodge of 60 years. A long time member of Trout Unlimited.
Ted is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ginny Rasmussen of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Greg (Ronda)Rasmussen of Rigby, ID; daughter, Jann Rasmussen of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Clint (Emily) Rasmussen of Kimberly, ID; and sister, Peggy Long of Gresham, OR. Ted and Ginny have 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Joan Rasmussen.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Idaho Falls Elks Lodge, 640 East Elva, at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 17, 2023.
