Shane McCann Obituary

Shane Marc McCann, 41, of Idaho Falls, passed away January 29, 2021, at his home.

Shane was born May 27, 1979, in Tremonton, Utah, to Wendell D. McCann and Sharon Kay McGinty McCann.  He grew up and attended schools in Garland, Utah, and graduated from Bear River High School in 1998.  He also attended Bridgerland Applied Technology Center in Logan, Utah, studying the machine trade.

Shane was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He faithfully served his mission in Dallas, Texas, from 1998-2000. This is where he first met the love of his life, his dark-haired angel, Heidi Guymon. On March 30, 2001, after a short courtship, Shane and Heidi were married in the Idaho Falls Temple for time and all eternity.  They made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho. To this union were born four children, Anissa (17), Darren Euvene (14), Victoria (11), and Danny Jacob (7).  Shane always prided himself on being a father.  When asked the question of “What do you want to be remembered for?,” he stated, “family man.”

Shane and his family enjoyed the outdoors and especially the mountains. Camping, hiking, target shooting, and just enjoying being together in nature were special times. For years, Shane always said he was closer to God in the mountains than any other place.

Shane most recently worked as an elementary school aide for Cloverdale Elementary.  This recent work started as Shane began volunteering and doing security at Cloverdale Elementary in 2018.  He soon became a devoted duty aide who touched many lives. He was always very proud of his job and enjoyed working with the children.

Shane also spent many years working as a cabinet maker for Gregory Johnson Cabinets and KVO Cabinets. He enjoyed working with wood and using his hands to create something beautiful.  His keen eye for wood also showed through his gun collection.

From an early age, Shane had a love and interest in Military firearms and memorabilia. He enjoyed many trips to Smith and Edwards Co. to dig through the history there. This developed not only a hobby but a mentorship where through he adopted many boys, teaching them life skills and much more than just living history. Shane also took his love of history into schools by doing presentations, starting when he was in high school. He prided himself in his knowledge of memorabilia from the Civil War to the present day.

He started collecting memorabilia by putting together an impression of his Great Uncle Danny Q. McGinty, who was killed in WWII.  This has since evolved into McCann’s Military Museum.  Together, the family built many memories with living history events and shared the museum with youth groups and cherished friends.

Shane is survived by his wife, Heidi McCann of Idaho Falls; children, Anissa, Darren, Victoria, and Danny McCann, all of Idaho Falls; father and mother, Wendell and Sharon McCann of Garland, UT; siblings, Troy W. (Becky) McCann and Andrea (Shaun) Johnson, both of Garland, UT.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Darren J. McCann; and grandparents, John and Margret McGinty, Euvene and Martha Halford, and
Marc and Nona McCann.
