Ruth Polson Hogan, 94, of Shelley, passed away October 11, 2021, at her home in Shelley. She was under the care of Hospice of Eastern Idaho.
Ruth was born at the family home in Jameston, east of Shelley, ID, on July 19, 1927, to Arvid Lawrence Polson and Rebecca Ruth Chadburn Polson. Eleven days later her mother passed away. Her father asked her mother's sister and husband, Laura and Bill Fielding, if they would raise her. They lived close by and he could visit and see his baby. Her father died when she was 13 years old. She attended Jameston Grade School for 8 years, and graduated from Shelley High School in 1945. After graduation she worked for Mountain States Telephone and later for several local businesses. Her hobbies included sewing, painting, gardening, quilting, and crocheting.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holding many positions throughout her life.
On December 12, 1946, she married Ralph Dennis Hogan at the Fielding Home. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on May 24, 1965, with all of their children being sealed to them. Ruth and Dennis lived in Idaho Falls until 1960, then moved to Taylor, just a few miles from where she was born and raised. They moved to Shelley in 2000, prior to Dennis’s death on October 31, 2001.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Linda Hogan of West Jordan, UT; daughter, Patricia Carr of Blackfoot, ID; son, Michael Hogan of Rigby, ID; son, Daniel (Sherie) Hogan of Bountiful, UT; daughter, Barbara Hogan of Shelley, ID; 14 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Ralph Dennis Hogan.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue in Idaho Falls. A visitation for family and friends will be held Friday evening from 6:30-8 p.m. and Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Taylor Cemetery.
