Robert Stoneberg, 91, of Idaho Falls passed away June 22, 2022, at his home. He had suffered a severe head injury after a fall in his home and was under the care of Aspen Home Health. He was born August 6, 1930, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Carl Robert Stoneberg and Violet Adele Tofte Stoneberg.
The family lived in New Sweden where his father farmed. When Robert was ten years old, his father bought a farm in Osgood. Unexpectedly, his father passed away of a heart attack January 7, 1944, when Robert was 13. His mother hired someone to help with the farming, but it wasn't going well, and so Robert said he could do the job. With the help of his Uncle Axel, he did the farming from then on. He was still living on that same corner of 35th W in Osgood.
He attended New Sweden Elementary, Osgood Elementary, O.E. Bell Jr. High and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1949. On December 30, 1952, he married his high school sweetheart, Connie Pedersen Stoneberg in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Robert was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions, including Bishop, Stake High Councilor, Elders Quorum President, Stake Activities Chairman and with Connie, served as MIA ward, stake and regional dance director for 17 years. With Connie, they served three missions for their church.
He was an excellent ballroom dancer and enjoyed fishing and hunting. Along with his family, he loved to snow ski, water ski, snowmobile and play golf. He taught Saturday ski school at Pine Basin and refereed high school football and basketball. He enjoyed cooking and became known for his excellent pizza. A pizza party was one of the favorite activities with the students when he and Connie were serving in the church on the Ricks College campus. After he retired, he took up wood working. Many family members and friends have been recipients of his beautiful pine beds and tables. All of the children loved his homemade bread, and were delighted when he made "Grampa pancakes". (Danish pancakes).
Robert is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Connie Stoneberg; daughter Holly (Alan) Reed of Idaho Falls; son, Waid Robert (Tauna Wilson) Stoneberg of Monteview; and daughter, Jody Nielson of Idaho Falls; 14 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren, with 3 more expected in the fall.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Nancy (David) Reed, Lillian (Keith) Drollinger and Melba (Irvin) Landon.
