Melanie Hawes Obituary

Melanie Delores Hawes, 69, of Idaho Falls, lost her fight with cancer on May 10, 2022, at Idaho Falls Community Hospital.

Melanie was born May 16, 1952, in Cape Town, South Africa, to Andrew van Minnen and Marie Hunt. She grew up in Parow, and attended JJ du Preez High School in Cape Town, South Africa. Melanie also attended the University of South Africa in Cape Town, and graduated with a Bachelor Degree in English and History in 2006.

Melanie enjoyed helping people and worked in Edinburgh, Scotland, and Idaho Falls, Idaho as a PSR worker and case manager. She loved traveling and history.

Melanie was married to Jeffrey Berg and lived for many years in Shelley Idaho, and even though they divorced, they remained good friends. She attended the Goshen Ward of the Latter-Day Saints, and loved her Heavenly Father very much. Later in life, she moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho, and was a member of the 21st Ward of Latter-Day Saints in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Melanie had a mothering nature, and always cared more about the well-being of the children, including her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, than her own dreams or wishes. Later in life, she insisted that the children were the greatest joy in her life.

Melanie is survived by her loving daughter, Diana Resendiz of Idaho Falls, ID, son, Richard Bolleurs of Palm Coast, FL, daughter, Natalie Proctor of Raleigh, NC, and son, Marc Bolleurs of Rigby, ID. She had 11 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. She raised her grandchild, Adrienne Bolleurs, and spent six years raising her great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Piper Bolleurs, whom she loved and cared for right up until the time of her passing.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Marie Hunt, father, Andrew van Minnen, ex-husband and friend, John Bolleurs, as well as sister, Joey van Niekerk.
