Marya Martin Obituary

Marya Annette Dobler Martin, 80, of Idaho Falls, passed away February 4, 2024, at MorningStar Senior Living Center. She was under the care of Hospice of Eastern Idaho.

Marya was born January 20, 1944, in Coronado, California, to Gilbert Nicholas “Nick” Dobler and Louise Vogel Dobler. She grew up a “Navy Brat” and lived in California, Florida, Virginia, and North Carolina. She graduated from the University of Idaho with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and from Idaho State University with a Master’s Degree in Education.

On June 13, 1966, she married Michael Ray Martin in Moscow, Idaho. Marya and Michael made their home in Idaho Falls where Marya worked as a school teacher for 4th and 5th grades for over 35 years. She fought for the rights of girls and women for many years and brought Title IX into her district.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Idaho Falls. She enjoyed traveling, sailing, meeting new people, and she loved to dance. Mike and Marya retired to a catamaran in the Caribbean and Bahamas for six years, only returning to Idaho when their first grandchild was born.

Marya was deeply loved by her husband, Michael Ray Martin of Idaho Falls; daughter, Melissa (Lilith) Rayne-Martin of Idaho Falls; sister, Lore Dobler of Santa Barbara, CA; and three grandchildren, Marcus Martin Rhudy, Sitara Kaylee Edmiston, and Michaela Joy Martin, all of Idaho Falls, ID.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas and Louise Dobler; and son, Marc Douglas Martin.

Services will be held at First Evangelical Lutheran Church at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to First Lutheran’s general fund would be appreciated.
