Karen Jo Benzon Sloan, 80, of Idaho Falls, passed away January 27, 2023, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. She was under the care of Aspen Home Health & Hospice.
Karen was born October 21, 1942, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Melvin Arthur Benzon and Edna Ray Eggleston Benzon. She grew up and attended schools in California and graduated from Arroyo Grande Union High School.
On January 5, 1963, she married Jerry Murl Sloan in Arroyo Grande, California. Karen and Jerry made their home in California and later moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho, where Karen worked as a records management for INEL. They were later divorced.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She enjoyed crafts, camping, cooking, and reading.
Karen is survived by her loving daughter, Julie A. (Daren) Norman of Ammon, ID; sons, Steven W. Sloan, R. Sean (Robyn) Sloan, and Jared D. (Heidi) Sloan, all of Idaho Falls, ID; brothers, Kent (Virginia) Benzon of Atascadero, CA and Keith (Kathy) Benzon of Nipoma, CA; fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Ray Benzon; and daughter-in-law, Jill L. Sloan.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 4, 2023, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, with Bishop Steve Sorenson officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services, both visitations at the funeral home. Services will be broadcast live on this page. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
