Joe Evens, 80, of Idaho Falls, passed away May 28, 2021, at his home.
Joe was born March 28, 1941, in Butte, Montana, to Jack Steven Evensiosky and Gladys Stratton Boyenger. He grew up and attended schools in Rexburg and Idaho Falls, and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1959.
On September 20, 1959, he married Norma Gwen Caughie.Joe and Norma made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and spent 5 years in Los Angeles, California.
Joe lived in Port Mansfield and San Antonio, Texas, for almost 40 years and worked in the commercial fishing business and then worked at Atascosa Mining in San Miguel Lignite Coal Strip Mine in Christine, Texas.
He was an active member of the Eagles Lodge. He had many interests and hobbies, which included fishing, hunting, watching horse races, poker, and road trips. Joe was a state wrestling champion in high school.
Joe is survived by his loving children, daughter Theresa (Kevin) Clapp, son Michael Evens, daughter, Michelle (Steve) Wahl, son Larry (Nicole) Evens, daughter Kristi (Norm) Jensen, all of Idaho Falls, ID; three sisters, Billie O’Neil of Idaho Falls, ID, Carol Evens of Kimberly, ID, and Bonnie Johnson of St. Anthony, ID; brother, Val Evens of St. Anthony, ID; and 19 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Bruce Evens, Boyd Evens, Steve Evens, and Michael Evens; and one sister, Juanita Monjaras.
A celebration of life will be Saturday, June 12, from 1-4:00 p.m. at the home of his son, Larry Evens.
