Salmon lost a wonderful member of its community on Wednesday, November 16, 2021, due to complications from cancer. People knew Jim from the years he delivered bread to the local restaurants and as an affable member of the serenity community, including weekly visits to the Lemhi County jail. Jim first came to Salmon in the late 80’s, seeking a place where he could hunt, fish, and be part of an intimate community.
Jim was born in Franklin, Indiana, to H. Herschel and Helen Bryant, the youngest of their two children. When he was six years old, the family moved to Lafayette, California, where he attended Del Valle High School and played varsity football, as well as being a member of the varsity wrestling team. He attended San Jose State University and then served four years in the Coast Guard. After his honorable discharge, he managed hardware stores in Dublin and Carmel Valley, California. In Salmon, Jim started JB Distributions, which he ran until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his niece Nicole Condit Duncan, and is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Madeleine Condit and Joe Glossberg, his niece Megan Condit, and nephews, Iain and Hamish Duncan and Sayre and Quin Knauf.
There will be a memorial service in Salmon celebrating Jim’s life in the spring.
