Howard Clark Obituary

Howard W. Clark, 96, of Boise, passed away March 1, 2021, at his home, with his wife by his side.  He was under the care of St. Luke's Hospice.

Howard W. Clark was born in Grand Junction, Colorado, on January 12, 1925, to Howard W. Clark Sr. And Flora Schwartz Clark. They were later divorced.  Howard and his mother moved to Idaho when he was about five years of age, to be near her family. Later on, Howard’s mother met Roland Coburn and they were married in St. Anthony, Idaho. They moved to a farm in the Lamont, Idaho, area, where they lived during the depression. Later moving to a farm near St. Anthony, Idaho. Howard has two sisters, Louise Newman, of Idaho Falls, and Ruth Mains, of Shelley.

Howard graduated from St. Anthony High School and volunteered in the U.S. Navy, where he served during World War II. Upon his discharge, he was employed as a Commercial Charter Pilot, flight instructor and as a crop duster.

In 1950, he met Marlene McGinn, and they were married in the Little Church in the Pines, at Mack’s Inn, Idaho, on July 14, 1950. Shortly after they were married, Howard accepted a position in the U.S. Post Office Department, serving as Postmaster at Mack’s Inn, Ririe, and Montpelier, Idaho. In the last years of his Postal Service, he was on special assignment, traveling extensively, assigning the additional four digits to the zip codes of a great many postal addresses. Howard and Marlene made their home in Idaho Falls in 1971, eventually relocating to Boise in 2012. He retired from the Postal Service in February of 1990.

They both are active in Christ the King Catholic Church. Marlene being the coordinator of music and principal organist for the Parish, until her retirement from that position in 2004. Howard is active in Council 1663, of the Knights of Columbus. He has served in a number of positions, including Grand Knight of the Council, Faithful Navigator of Assembly 187, and the Knights of Columbus Idaho State Family Director.

Howard enjoyed wood working, lapidary, and photography.

Howard is survived by his loving wife, Marlene Clark of Boise, ID; daughters, Janet Clark of Boise, ID, and Tauna (Jim) Davidson of Sequim, WA; son, Dr. Clinton (Shelly Orme) Clark of Boise, ID; sister, Louise Newman of Idaho Falls, ID; sister, Ruth Maine of Shelley, ID; 4 grandchildren, Brian Davidson, Travis Davidson, Tyler Clark and Olivia Clark; and 4 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Flora Clark.

Private family services will be held. Burial will be in the Parker Cemetery.
