Harvey Welch Obituary

Harvey Dewain Welch, born November 1, 1931, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Clyde Emmet Welch (1897-1960) and Ardella Bell (1909-1997) passed away at home on April 10, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

After attending Wendell High School, he joined the United States Navy for four years and honorably served his country. He served in the Korean War with valor and duty to country. Upon returning home from service, he attended Temple University and Utah State University, and received his Bachelor in Engineering Degree. While there, he fell in love with his future wife, Mary Lula Whitehouse. They were married June 29, 1962, in Tooele, Utah. Harvey and Mary moved to many different states for various employment opportunities while rearing five children. Harvey worked for many different engineering fields, eventually working for decades as a Nuclear Engineer at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory.

Harvey’s life was full of service and love for his fellow man. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had a deep love for Christ’s doctrine and the gospel of Jesus Christ. His life was filled with church callings and he served in the temple for many years. Harvey served in the scouting organization for at least four decades. While there, he taught many lifelong lessons and skills to those involved in the associated programs. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, and skiing. Harvey would often take provisions to those in need in his community, while always remaining anonymous. Harvey was a wonderful father and friend. He will be dearly missed.

Harvey is survived by his wife, Mary Lula Welch of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Steven Howard Welch of Farr West, UT; daughter, Tawnia Kay Hoekstra (Welch) of Liberty Lake, WA; daughter, Lori Dawn Welch of Ogden, UT; Crystal Leigh Russell (Welch) of Idaho Falls, ID; and son, Andrew Dewain Welch of Idaho Falls, ID.
