Gretchen Marie Capin Luxton passed away after a long fight with diabetes and heart disease on March 19, 2017 at Parkwood Meadows Assisted Living in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Gretchen was born in Spokane, Washington, on February 8, 1944 to Bertha Gertrude Gallin Capin and Ellsworth Byrd Capin.
When Gretchen was in 6th grade, she wrote a poem with the help of her school principal.
As twilight draws her curtains And pins them with a star, Remember me dear friends Tho we may wander far.
Gretchen had many interests and hobbies, some of them included sewing, ceramics, jewelry making, nature, fishing, and birds. She especially loved back packing in the Olympic Mountains in the state of Washington and rock hunting in Montana where she found many beautiful Montana Moss Agates. Gretchen also loved dogs and cats. She always had at least one pet and sometimes more.
Gretchen graduated from Peninsula High School in Gig Harbor, Washington. After graduation she relocated to Seattle where she lived with her sister while seeking employment. Gretchen found work at a Doctor's office. Later, Gretchen attended Olympic College in Bremerton, Washington where she took classes in the sciences and nursing. Gretchen worked for 17 years at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Bremerton as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
Gretchen married Ronald Glenn Wright in 1964. During their marriage they lived in Washington, Alaska, California, and Texas. Two children were born to them. They later divorced.
Gretchen then married Martin Lee Johnsen in 1972. During their marriage they lived in Washington. One child was born to them. They later divorced.
Gretchen then married Roy M. Luxton in 1984. They later divorced.
Gretchen is survived by three children: Steve (Nicole) Wright, Debra (Albert) Andersen, and Martin Johnsen; 14 grandchildren: Alexis, Andrew, Colin, Macy, Bradley, Emily, Maren, Brian, Kathryne, Lillie, Ashley, Martin, Vicki, Alex and one great grandchild. She is also survived by her sister Bette (Bob) Riebli, three nieces, and numerous grand nieces and nephews.
Gretchen was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Fredrick Capin, and her grandson Ronald.
