Gloria Condie Obituary

It is with great sorrow that we note the passing of our dear mother, Gloria Condie. Gloria Gail (Heileson) Condie was born March 20, 1935, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She passed away on August 11, 2019, thankfully in her sleep. She was the first of five children born to Dora Idella (Wilkins) and Harvey LeRoy Heileson. Even as a young school girl, she worked hard to support herself and assist her family. She worked in the fall spud harvests around Idaho Falls, Idaho, and later worked in the bakery of the original Albertsons Supermarket in Boise, Idaho, making cakes for Joe Albertson’s children’s birthdays.

When Gloria was young, her grandmother Mary Sorensen Maxfield took her to church every Sunday. It was here that she made the decision to center her life around the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She spent the rest of her life as a committed and active member, holding many callings and giving countless hours of service. She was often called to serve as a teacher to young children. She is fondly remembered by them as someone who was sweet, tender, and caring.

She graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1953. She was active in drill team and loved to socialize with her peers. After high school, she worked for Idaho Falls Hospital as a lab assistant. She met and married James J. Condie of Pocatello in 1960, moved to Pocatello, and raised five children. She was a devoted mother and came from the generation of home cooked meals, sewing, and canning food. She was a talented singer and whistler and could often be heard singing or whistling while doing the dishes after dinner. She sang in the church choir for many years. She loved to dance and was a member of the Pocatello Ladies Clogging Group. She worked as a teacher's aide at Lincoln Elementary and Washington Elementary for many years and was loved by the young students there. Often, she would run into former students years after they had graduated and would always get a firm warm hug. At Christmas time, she received dozens of cute gifts from her students with a hand written card telling her that they loved her. She worked these jobs as a way to support her three sons on LDS missions.

She spent her later years traveling abroad to Europe (with her dear friend Nancy Bennett from Wakefield, England), visiting her children and grandchildren, and continuing her church service. In her mid-sixties, she began to experience the early stages of dementia and Alzheimer's, which ultimately took her memory of all those who love her dearly. She will be remembered as someone who was the best kind of person: kind, generous, thoughtful, loving, faithful, and encouraging. In her life she endured many hardships, but always looked to the sky for the silver lining. She will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by her father Harvey LeRoy, her mother Dora Idella, and her brother Robert LeRoy (Bob). She is survived by her brothers, Stephen Ray (Steve) and Wade,  sister Geraldine (Gerri) Sheffield, her ex-husband James Condie, and her five children Patrick, Scott, Brad, Holly (Tukuafu), and Julie (Duffin).
