Glen Farnes Obituary

Glen Harold Farnes, 87, of Ammon, passed away peacefully with his family around him on June 11, 2021.

Glen was born on March 3, 1934, to John Russell Farnes and Ida Rosylvia Jacobsen. He joined brothers, Jay, Lyle, Eldon, and sister, DeLoris, and later to join the family was Larry and LaRee. They lived on a dry farm on the North Pine Creek Bench in the Swan Valley, Idaho, Area.

Glen attended elementary school at the North Pine Creek one-room school, then his family moved to Milo, Idaho, where he finished his schooling in Ucon, Idaho. He graduated high school in the first graduating class from the newly formed Bonneville High School in 1952.

On October 14, 1955, he married his high-school sweetheart, Ida Doriene Egan. Glen continued to work for his father on the farm, and was drafted into the Army on July 13, 1956. He served six months at Fort Ord, California, for his boot camp days, and then he was able to come home for two glorious weeks, and then off to Germany where he served for 18 long months without being able to talk to his sweetheart.

Upon returning, he worked for a bakery in Idaho Falls for a year and then went to work for Caterpillar. He was laid off, and then went to worked for Demott Tractor as a mechanic for a few years. Family was so important that he quit his job to have regular hours so he could be home with his family. This change took him back to the farm life working for Pleasant Valley Dairy.  Hard times came and he was forced to change jobs again. He went to work for Thiokol Potato Equipment and Sales building potato combines. This company changed hands many times and finally went out of business. Glen then worked for Delta Machine Shop as a machinist. He retired in 1997.

Glen was a kind, caring, loving father, and friend. He was instantly your friend and very concerned about you.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and held many callings. He served as Primary Teacher, Elders Quorum Secretary, Ward Clerk, and he served a Stake Mission. After both Glen and Doriene retired, they served a mission at the Idaho Falls Genealogy Library. He was assigned to repair the books and became a book binder.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Carol Sue (Rodney) Scott of Idaho Falls;and brother, Lyle Farnes of Shelley, ID.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife; parents; brothers, Jay, Eldon, and Larry; and sisters, DeLoris and LaRee.
