George Lowell Smith, 92, of Idaho Falls, passed away May 5, 2021, at his home.

George was born June 30, 1928, in Salt Lake City, UT, to Lowell G. Smith and Georgia Mae Bingham Smith. He grew up and attended schools in Smithfield and Cache Valley, Utah and graduated from Weber High School. He also attended Utah State.

On March 21, 1948, he married Shirley Jean Banford in Elko, NV. George and Shirley made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where George worked as a electrical engineer for Phillips Petroleum and the INEL .

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as Bishop, and a member of the Branch Presidency in Bartlesville, OK. He loved to golf, hunt and fish. He especially loved spending time with his family.

George is survived by his daughters, Cheryl (Paul) Olsen and Linda (Mike) Howard, both of Idaho Falls, ID; and sons, Brian G. (Laura) Smith of Orem, UT; Brent L. (Patricia) Smith of Big Lake, AK; Bruce T. (Carie) Smith of Billings, MT; brother, Claire B. (Darlene) Smith of Bountiful, UT; sister, Dorothy B. Miller of Idaho Falls, ID; 26 grandchildren and 78 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lowell and Georgia Smith; wife, Shirley Smith; grandson, Jerry Alan Olsen; great-grandson, Ethan Howard; and brother-in-law, Clayton Miller.

Services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, May 14, 2021, at the Idaho Falls Pioneer Ward, 2020 S. Charlotte Drive, with Bishop Fred Cooper officiating. Services will be broadcast live via this link here: George Smith Funeral Service. Burial will be in the Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.

Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
