Fumiko "Mickey" Nukaya, 92, of Ammon, passed away March 24, 2024, at Idaho Falls Community Hospital.
Fumiko was born February 11, 1932, in Sugar City, Idaho, to Gisaku Ugaki and Hisano Akiyama Ugaki. She grew up and attended schools in Sugar City and graduated from Sugar City High School. She also attended Sewing Trade School in California.
On June 22, 1957, she married Fumio Nukaya in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Fumiko and Fumio made their home in Idaho Falls where Fumiko worked as a Child Nutritionist for School District 91. They moved to Ammon in 2016.
She was a member of the School Nutrition Association, where she attended several food conventions all over the state. She enjoyed camping, fishing, sewing, crocheting, canning, and cooking. Later, when grandchildren and great grandchildren came along, she loved watching and following their sports, dance recitals, and other various activities.
Fumiko is survived by her husband, Fumio Nukaya of Ammon, ID; son, Byron (Irene) Nukaya of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Lori (Richard) Fisher of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Sandy (John Heady) Nukaya of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Cary (Radeane) Nukaya of Idaho Falls, ID; brother, Jack (Margie) Ugaki of California; brother-in-law, Hito Nukaya of Las Vegas, NV; brother-in-law, Jun Nukaya of Idaho Falls, ID; brother-in-law, Ken (Pam) Nukaya of Twin Falls, ID; sister-in-law, Lee Nukaya of Idaho Falls, ID; 13 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gisaku and Hisano Ugaki; siblings, Yoshi (Ayako) Ugaki, Sekiko "Ruby" (Fred) Ouye, Ken Ugaki, Yuzo (Waka) Ugaki, Tomi (Jan) Ugaki, and Takako Ugaki Nukaya.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road. The family will visit with friends Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services, both visitations at the funeral home.
