Frederick Charles Smith, 81, of Iona, passed away May 1, 2021, at his home. He was under the care of Hospice of Eastern Idaho and his loving family.
Fred was born May 28, 1939, in Mishawaka, Indiana, to Howard E. Smith and Grace D. Roberts Smith. He grew up and attended schools in Indiana. He served as a Specialist in the United States Army.
On April 17, 1964, he married Barbara Shaw in Mishawaka. They were divorced in December 1993. On October 21, 1994, he married Charlotte June Abramson Hinton in the Chicago Illinois Temple. Fred and June made their home in South Bend, Indiana, where Fred worked as a custodian for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 2005, they moved to Iona, Idaho, to be close to family.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed coin collecting and gardening.
Fred is survived by his loving wife, June Smith of Iona, ID; step-sons, Charles (Dawn) Hinton of California, Jeffrey Hinton of Iona, and David (Kirsten) of Iona; 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, one stepson, one stepdaughter, and one great-great granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at the Iona 10th Ward, 5169 E. Denning, with Bishop Nathan Stevens officiating. The family will visit with friends from 11-11:45 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Iona Cemetery where Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and the Idaho Honor Guard.
