Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Ervin Stanley Hill, 88, of Idaho Falls, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2015.
Ervin was born August 1, 1926, in Lorenzo, Idaho, one of thirteen children born to Henry Hill and Elnora Ann Ellis Hill. Ervin spent his growing up years on a large sheep ranch called Bear Creek Ranch in Irwin, Idaho, which is now under the waters of the Palisades Reservoir at Calamity Point. Ervin attended Idaho Falls High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in both the Philippines and Japan. He was honorably discharged November 27, 1946.
One of the most important days of Ervin’s life was when he met Leah Helen Humphries on the ski slopes at Bear Gulch. They were married June 20, 1947, in Idaho Falls, and were sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple August 11, 1949. They were blessed with five children, Greg, Roger, Pat, Paul, and Eric.
Ervin joined the firm of Tandy & Wood Inc. November 4, 1946, and remained with them until his retirement August 31, 1992. He was a successful businessman, known for his honesty and integrity. He was an active member of the Kiwanis Club and served as Club President from 1964-65.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ervin served on the High Council and for many years as Ward and Stake Clerk. In 1992, Ervin and Leah served a one-year mission at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he developed a love for family history work. They also served at the Idaho Falls Multi-Regional Family History Center.
Ervin was the most kind and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He leaves behind a wonderful legacy of Christ-like attributes to his posterity. He will long be remembered for his love and devotion to his eternal companion, Leah.
