Dorris Ethel Jones Meyer, 91, of Madison, South Dakota, passed away Friday, September 27, 2013, at Bethel Lutheran Home in Madison, South Dakota.
She was born May 27, 1922, at Rigby, Idaho, in the old Bybee Ward area, to Karl Henry Jones and Ethel Kinghorn Jones.
She married Joseph Leland McLing and he passed away September 16, 1966. Dorris married Jack Warren Meyer, Sr. on October 22, 1971. She helped with the war effort during World War II by driving a bus for government employees. She worked as a nurse in Preston, Idaho and was actively involved in the queen rearing operations of A. H. Meyer & Sons, Inc.
Dorris was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and was a member of various clubs and auxiliaries in Madison, SD and Natchez, MS.
Survivors include her children, Lynn (Sharon) McLing of Preston, ID; Jack (Peggy) Meyer of Madison, SD; Janet (Lorin) Tobler of Tempe, AZ; Susan (Jay) Barber of Tallahassee, FL and Reynold (Michelle) Meyer of Tallahassee, FL; one son-in-law, Gary Odell of Idaho Falls, ID;35 grandchildren, 106 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, her brothers, Carlyle and Wendell, and a daughter, Myrna Odell.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2013, at Fielding Memorial Park. The family will visit with friends on Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, prior to the graveside services.
