David Lionel Hathaway, 60, of Rigby, passed away Monday, June 11, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer.
David was born July 4, 1951, in Rexburg, Idaho, to Michael James Hathaway and Leda Maxine Hertzig Hathaway and grew up in Mud Lake. He attended schools in Rigby and Ririe, and graduated from Ririe High School in Ririe, Idaho. He served a full time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Northern California.
He married Rita Joy Ellis on August 3, 1974, in the Idaho Falls Temple and had four children. They divorced in 2002.
He married Barbara Ann Monson Phillips September 26, 2008, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
David was a loving father and cared deeply for his family. He had a strong work ethic and taught it to his children. He was a man of many trades and worked several various jobs throughout his life. He worked as a hod carrier for Wardell Masonry and a farm hand for Foster Farms and Walker Farms. He worked as a foreman for Idaho Pacific and started a manufactured home set up and transport business. That business later turned into long haul transportation. He was most recently employed as a truck manager for Walker Farms.
David was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in many callings. His favorite was serving in the Primary.
David was diagnosed with Malignant Mesothelioma in January of 2011. He bravely faced the disease head on, and never complained. He was an example of courage to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
David is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Hathaway of Shelley; his four children, Kari (Jared) Green of Idaho Falls, David (Rindee) Hathaway of Iona, Paul (Theresa) Hathaway of Shelley, and Melissa (David) Belnap of Idaho Falls; his two stepchildren, Jessica (Justin) McClure of Shreveport, LA and Andrew Phillips of West Monroe, LA; two brothers, Mike (Lorraine) Hathaway and John (Debbie) Hathaway; and six sisters, Kathy (Tom) Brown, JoAnn Cheatham, Julie (Arden) Anderson, Ardis (Kent) Roberts, Merrilee (Kerry) Simmons, and Ruth Beck. He was a proud grandfather of Trey Gardner; Codee, Cambree, and Carlee Hathaway; Tristin and Tadyn Hathaway; and Aiden and Adylin Belnap.
David was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Carol Lynne Hathaway, and a brother-in-law, Tom Beck.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012, at the Rigby LDS South Stake Center, 3800 South 100 North, Rigby, with Bishop Arden Anderson of the Shelley LDS 8th Ward officiating. The family will meet with friends on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, and Saturday from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Chester Cemetery in Chester, Idaho.

The family will meet with friends Friday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side (963 S. Ammon) and on Saturday from 9-9:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in Chester Cemetery.
