Dan Kunz III Obituary

Dan Eugene Kunz III, 42, of Idaho Falls, passed away gently and suddenly on October 5, 2019, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

Dan was born February 14, 1977, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Dan Eugene Kunz, Jr. and Janeil Sorensen Kunz. He grew up McCammon, Idaho, and attended Mountain View Elementary and Marsh Valley Middle School.  He graduated from Marsh Valley High School where he was involved in FFA and track, was manager for the boys’ basketball team, and had many good friends. Dan attended Idaho State University where he was involved with the LDS Institute.  He later completed his Certificate of Electronic Engineering Technician (CEET) degree at ITT Technical Institute – Henderson, Nevada.

Dan met Julie Ann Dotson at a friend’s Halloween party in 2006. She was the love of his life, and he adored her. On March 3, 2007, he married Julie in Logandale, Nevada. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Rexburg LDS Temple in 2008.

Dan and Julie have three children, Dan IV, Samantha, and Rosie. Dan was a devoted, proud, and loving father. He was always ready to read with, play with, and even to get dressed-up by his kids. Dan and Julie made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Dan was industrious and had many diverse strengths and skills. His work life began at an early age with entrepreneurial endeavors, and he often included his siblings to complete these endeavors. He moved sprinkler pipe, mowed lawns, milked cows, and hauled hay as a youth. He worked in various roles at Frasier Industrial in Pocatello, Idaho.  At Leavitt Construction in Overton, Nevada, he worked as part of a crew that completed various projects in the Moapa Valley, Nevada area. He excelled as a Customer Service Manager at Lin’s Marketplace in Overton, Nevada, where he worked while starting his electronics degree. He then became the Electronic Bench Technician at Anderson Communications in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he set-up and maintained radio communications for large hotels and casinos. For the last several years Dan has worked as an Advanced Repair Agent for Geek Squad at Best Buy in Idaho Falls, Idaho. In each of Dan’s roles, he had valued and close relationships with both colleagues and clients.

Dan was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission for the Church in Independence, Missouri, which was a defining time in his life; he made many friends, had incredible experiences, and enjoyed sharing his testimony. Dan gave dedicated service in many callings including: Elders Quorum President/Presidency, Activities Board Chairman, Ward Financial Clerk, Nursery Leader, Sunday School Teacher, and Home Teacher/Ministering Brother.

Dan had many hobbies. He had a passion for electronics and was an early-adopter of technologies. He had a great sense of fun and humor and liked a good prank. He enjoyed the outdoors and shooting guns.  He loved music and particularly enjoyed live performances. Dan was a self-proclaimed “geek” – he enjoyed video games, sci-fi, comics, and movies. He also had a love of cars that began as a child working closely with his father.  He liked to drive fast with the windows down and the music turned up.

Dan is survived by his beloved and loving wife, Julie Ann Kunz of Idaho Falls, ID; his children, Dan IV, Samantha, and Rosie Kunz, all of Idaho Falls, ID; his mother, Janeil Kunz of Idaho Falls, ID; a sister, Heather Kunz of Idaho Falls, ID; brothers, Ian (Ashley) Kunz of American Falls, ID and Monte (ShaReece) Kunz of Logan, UT; his grandmother, Immogene Sorensen of Logan, UT; his “in-dopted” siblings, Tammy (Steven) Voda of Idaho Falls, ID, Gavin Sorensen of Idaho Falls, ID, and Benjamin (Jessica) Simmons of North Ogden, UT, and several nieces and nephews.
