Clifford Maddock Obituary

Clifford Jack Maddock, 80, of Idaho Falls, passed away April 1, 2024, at his home, surrounded by family while under the care of his loving family and Solace Hospice.

Cliff was born April 11, 1943, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Jack Maddock, and who he'd refer to as one of the best Moms a guy could ask for, Cora Geraldine Rumble Ridley. He grew up and attended schools in Blackfoot, and graduated from Blackfoot High School before joining the United States Army.

On October 21, 1962, Cliff married Patsy Jackson in Elko, Nevada. The couple had three children together, Clifford "Skeeter" Maddock Jr., Karen Maddock, and Kevin Maddock, before divorcing.

On July 27, 1986, he married the love of his life, Debbie Jo Matyku, who shared his passion for horse riding. Together, the couple built a beautiful life in Idaho Falls that included three children, Aaron Reed, Justin Maddock, and Jessica Maddock, and a small farm with an assortment of cattle, pigs, goats, geese, and of course, horses! It was here that Cliff instilled his work ethic into his kids.

Cliff was a "jack of all trades" and loved to work and be outdoors. He could fix anything from tractors to plumbing and everything in between. In fact, he built many things by hand. Most notably, a cabin in Island Park where his family shared many fond memories and a barn for Debbie's horses.

Cliff's other hobbies included hunting, fishing, vacations, and family get-togethers. Of course, all of this in addition to his sense of humor! He loved tricking the kids into "pulling his finger" and would find any opportunity to poke fun – something he only did if he cared for you. When he was hospitalized, he would call his kids and grandkids and say, "Why don't you pull up outside and break me out of this place, will ya?" He would often add additional demands such as "Bring me some clothes, too!"

Above all else, Cliff loved his family dearly and was truly the best husband, dad, and grandpa. He was always serving others, whether it was filling up the gas in Debbie's car or picking up the grandkids to have fun, or other things like building a barn or bailing hay! He was the person you'd call when you needed help, advice, or a good laugh. Cliff was like a second dad to his grandchildren and shared a special relationship with Haylee Jo-Ann Maddock, Kaden Barrigan, and Brielle Barrigan. His legacy will continue to live on through his children and grandchildren – one of the most beautiful examples of a life well lived. To put it briefly, his impact on our lives will not be forgotten and our memories with him will always be cherished.

Cliff is survived by his wife, Debbie Jo Maddock of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Clifford "Skeeter" Maddock Jr. of Oregon; daughter, Karen Maddock of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Aaron Reed of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Justin (Krystal) Maddock of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Jessica (CJ Beard) Maddock of Idaho Falls, ID; brother, Pat (Kay) Ridley of Island Park, ID; brother, Jim (Karen) Ridley of Brooksville, OR; sister, Laquita (Fred) Markle of Pendleton, OR; sister, Joyce (Ronald, deceased) Montague of The Dalles, OR; granddaughter, Haylee Jo-Ann Maddock, who was like a second daughter; 11 additional grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Maddock; mother, Cora Geraldine Ridley; father, Jack Maddock; stepfather, Virgil Ridley; and siblings, Larry "Nub" Maddock, Clint Maddock, Bill Ridley, Don Ridley, Larry Ridley, and Lawana Ridley.
