Zenna Longhurst

Zenna Mickelsen Longhurst, 92, of Iona, passed away September 19, 2017, at MorningStar Senior Living Center. She was under the care of her loving family and Encompass Hospice. Zenna was born May 27, 1925, in Moore, Idaho, to Henry Noah Mickelsen and Sophia Chlotilda Hubbard Mickelsen. She was the youngest of their ten children. On November 15, 1941, she married Joseph William "Bill" Longhurst in Iona, Idaho, and they were later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple. To this union were born seven children; Dennis, Vicki, Linda, Nancy, Murray, Laurie, and David. Zenna and Bill made their home and raised their children in Iona. After 70 years of marriage, Bill passed away February 26, 2012. Zenna was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a strong testimony of her Savior. She served in many callings and served a mission with Bill at the Idaho Falls LDS Temple Visitors Center. Zenna had a keen eye for capturing the beauty of the earth in her oil and watercolor paintings and was a member of the Bonneville Art Association. She loved music and sang in a trio with Beth Olsen and Zona Hatch for many years. She and Bill sang together and taught their posterity a love of music. Zenna was also a talented pianist and played up until just a few days before her death. Zenna worked alongside Bill in farming their land and growing their garden and raspberry patch. She was an accomplished hostess who knew how to feed a crowd and make everyone feel welcome in her home. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at MorningStar Senior Living Center and Encompass Hospice for their loving care and kindness. Zenna is survived by her son, Dennis (DyAna) Longhurst of North Ogden, UT; daughter, Vicki (Ken) Baldwin of Iona, ID; daughter, Linda West of Mapleton, UT; daughter, Nancy (Cecil) Wilde of Rigby, ID; son, Murray (Clairene) Longhurst of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Laurie (Mike) Rinck of Stansbury Park, UT; son, David (JanaLee) Longhurst of Springville, UT; 31 grandchildren, 79 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; son-in-law, Bill West; granddaughter, Shelby West; great grandson, William Longhurst; and nine siblings. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 25, 2017, at the Iona LDS Stake Center, 7555 North 55th East, with Bishop Doug Talbot of the Iona 11th Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 6:30-8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Rd., and Monday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Iona Cemetery.
