Zayden Drayce Jensen was born October 6, 2022, to Heidi, Klarisa, and Joshua Jensen at the University of Washington at 10:09 a.m. On October 7th, he was transferred to Seattle Children's Hospital to begin his treatments.
You see, Zayden was our little miracle - our little fire dragon. We fought for him since day one. We tried so hard for over a year to conceive. At week 12, we found out he had some complications... Lower Urinary Tract Obstruction. Doctor's told us we would not make it to week 28, let alone birth. But we did. He was born full-term at 37 weeks on October 6th.
He did so well with his treatments and was beating all the odds... surprising nurses and doctors left and right. Everyone who crossed paths with him, loved him. He had the best personality. Just days before he passed, he was up playing and cooing with his moms. He had the softest, most sweetest cry that no one could take seriously and eyes that saw beyond his years. He truly lit up the room.
Joshua and two of the kids - JJ and Skye - had arrived Friday, November 18th, to spend Thanksgiving break in Seattle. On Saturday the 19th, after an emergency surgery because of free air in his abdomen, the doctors discovered he had had a perforated bowel caused by a blood clot. They removed most of his large intestine, washed him out, and gave him an ostomy. He came back upstairs to heal... but was just too weak and couldn't.
By 7:30 a.m. Sunday, November 20th, we were told he wouldn't make it past the day. We chose to spend our last moments with him. We let family and friends know and zoomed with the kids back home so everyone could say goodbye. We then took him outside to the rooftop garden, where he was peacefully extubated. Zayden passed away November 20, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. in Heidi's arms. He fought hard to be here with us all and touched the lives of everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his mothers, Heidi and Klarisa Jensen; father, Joshua Jensen; and all of his siblings, Alexia Kelley, Kari Kelley, James (JJ) Jensen, Adakai Kelley, Sarah Kelley, Skye Jensen, Levi Kelley, Jacob Kelley, and Jesse Kelley. He also has an unborn baby sister, Araedia Jensen, on the way. He has several grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, both biological and chosen, who love and will miss him as well.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at Wood Funeral Home, 963 S. Ammon Rd, Ammon, ID 83406, with a viewing at 3 p.m. prior. Services will be broadcast live at www.woodfuneralhome.com.
A Celebration of Life will be held December 17, 2022 at 2 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge, 225 S. Capital Ave, Idaho Falls, ID 83402. Potluck-style food, games, and social will be had in memory of Zayden.
Run with the wolves and soar high with the dragons little buddy. We love you past the moon and will miss you beyond the stars. Until we can hold you in our arms again, we will carry you in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the family's gofundme or venmo account. Funds exceeding expenses will go towards making a memorial spot for family and friends to enjoy year-round.
