Zane Charles Mann, 97, passed away June 27, 2017, surrounded by family and friends at MorningStar Assisted Living Center. He was under the care of Encompass Hospice. Zane was born January 11, 1920, in a log cabin near Willow Creek, the first born of Claude Charles and Mary Alice Barnes Mann. He was blessed with two little brothers, Walt and Forrest; and two little sisters; Dale and Edna. He was the last surviving member of his family. Zane took his first horse ride at 16 months and never stopped riding. He spent many summers in the Greys Lake area herding cattle, fixing fence, and riding the ranges. He spoke fondly of the night camp fires with his family and friends. In 1934, Zane was one of eleven students who graduated from Buck School. He was dubbed "Zinc," with the phrase: "Don't judge my knowledge by my stature." On November 15,1941, Zane married the love of his life, Nadine Shaw. Together, they raised six children, Coral, Judy, Bruce, Mike, Teresa, and Colleen. Zane was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army, 2nd Evacuation Battalion, Asiatic Pacific during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946 to return home to his wife and daughter. Together, they ranched and farmed in the Willow Creek area (now Ririe Reservoir), Rigby and Shelton areas. Zane and Nadine retired from farming in 1984 and spent many days and nights fishing and camping. He loved fishing and would go whenever asked, always saying, "This may be my last trip," and family hoping it was not. He also loved pinochle, and would change a plan just to play. Zane is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Nadine Mann of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Coral Dean (Larry) Campbell of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Judy Kay (Joe) Clifford of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Mike Charles (Karen) Mann of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Teresa Gay (Bruce) Wolfenbarger of Meridian, ID; daughter, Colleen (Jody Liljenquist) Mann of Idaho Falls, ID; 16 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
