YOLANDE C. ORR
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Yolande Corinne Orr died peacefully
Saturday, December 27, 2003, at her home in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Yolande was born in Alberta, Canada on March 10, 1923.
She moved to Portland, Oregon where her parents, C.L.M. and Corinne Pouteau
obtained jobs teaching French classes. Yolande attended local elementary
schools and graduated at age 17 from the Gable Country Day School, a private
high school. She then attended Oregon State University and the University
of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon. During the summer she worked as a waitress
and during the school year as a secretary at the college. The happiest
teen years were spent at the beach speaking French with college students
in a French camp directed by her mother and another professor.
After college, she and her sister sought work in San
Francisco, California at Ransohoffs, an exclusive ladies ready to wear
department store. Yolande worked 3 years in accounts payable, she then
married G.C. Waid MD, and continued working while her husband did a 2
year residency in Internal Medicine. He continued his training in Salt
Lake City. She worked as a secretary for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.
In 1952, they moved to Idaho Falls, and raised 3 adopted children. She
worked part time as an office nurse until his death in 1980.
For many years, she served as a volunteer: President
of the IF Medical Auxiliary, IF Symphony Society, Parkview (Community)
Hospital and State President to the Idaho Medical Auxiliary and many other
volunteer organizations.
In 1985 she married John T. Orr and for 5 years acted
as care giver for family in Portland and neighbors in Arizona. Yolande
enjoyed golfing, swimming, gardening and traveling.
She was preceded in death by her Father in 1933, her
daughter, Suzette Waid Boyle in 1975, her husband, G.C. Curtis Waid MD
in 1980, her mother, Corinne Pouteau in 1993, and her brother, GG Pouteau
MD, two years later.
She is survived by her husband, John, 2 sons; Marc C.
Waid, Stansbury Park, UT and Daniel R. Waid, Sutherlin, Oregon; her brother,
J.L.M. Pouteau MD, Vacaville, CA and one sister, Collette Roest, Los Osos,
CA. She has several nieces and nephews, and one granddaughter, Corinne
"Cori" Waid, Stansbury Park, UT.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian church. Suggested
memorial contributions my be made to the American Cancer Society or a
charity of your choice.
The family will meet friends at Wood Funeral Home (273
N. Ridge) from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday evening, December 30, 2003. Services
will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2003, at the First Presbyterian
Church (325 Elm Street), with Reverend Dr. Dennis Falasco officiating.
Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park.
