Winona Leola Squires, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 26, 2012, at The Gables Senior Living in Ammon, Idaho of causes incident to age. Winona was born July 6, 1923, in Charleston, Kansas to Leo and Alice Webster. She had four sisters and three brothers. She spent her childhood in Scott City, Kansas. After high school, she moved to Denver, Colorado, where she attended community college and met her husband, Dee Haight. They married and she moved to his farm in Lorenzo, Idaho where they farmed and raised sheep and cattle. She had many stories of raising bum lambs in her kitchen to make sure they all survived. She attended Ricks College and graduated with her teaching degree. She taught elementary school in Jefferson County. They had one daughter, Rochelle Deon. Winona and Dee were later divorced. On September 1, 1956, she married Bud Squires. They lived in Rexburg and had one daughter, Bronwynn Leigh, and together raised both daughters. She helped with Bud’s trucking business and farming. In 1959, she became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and loved researching and teaching the Bible. Her closest lifelong friends and fine memories were at the Kingdom Hall in St. Anthony. Winona was a very fine artist and loved to paint. Her love of oil painting kept her up many nights. She donated many of her paintings to the Kingdom Halls. She loved flowers and plants and could name almost any type. If she didn’t know a flower or plant, she researched it extensively. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, reading books and helping them with homework. She taught them to read before they started school. She enjoyed being with her family. Winona is survived by: Daughter, Bronwynn (Kelly) Wasden of Rexburg, ID; 6 grandchildren: Riachle (Shana) Whittle of Rexburg, ID; Raquel (Mark) Goyen of Shelley, ID; Chantell (Cody) Ashment of Ucon, ID; Raegan (Mark) Schwendinger of Wisconsin, MI; Daimon (Samantha) Robles of Driggs, ID; Reina (Ryan) Hutchens of Rigby, ID; and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Rochelle; two brothers; three sisters; and her parents. Her memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2012, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses (4805 S. Sweet Water Way) in Ammon.
