Wilson Burnell Knight, 93, of Idaho Falls, loving and devoted husband of Martha, joined her in the arms of his Lord Jesus Christ, on Friday, September 16, 2011, after a brief illness at his home. He was under the care of Hospice of Eastern Idaho.
‘Burnie' was born September 9, 1918, in Columbus, Ohio, to Charles Wilson Knight and Vivian Mae Craft Knight. He grew up and attended schools in Wheeling, West Virginia, graduating from Linsly Military Academy in Wheeling in 1937. He continued his education at Penn State University, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. He graduated with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering.
After graduation, he continued his military service with the Army Corps of Engineers, seeing action in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He left active duty in 1946 and served in the reserves. He was activated two times during his reserve service until his military retirement as a Major in 1978.
On July 31, 1942, he married his lifelong sweetheart, Martha R. Martin, in Wheeling, West Virginia. After the war they lived in Steubenville, Ohio; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and moved to Idaho Falls 40 years ago. During his time with Westinghouse he was involved in the building of the first nuclear submarine. He continued work for Westinghouse until his retirement in 1983 at INL.
He was an encourager to his wife, daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He belonged to the Masonic Order and Shrine for over 50 years and was active in endeavors for the Shriners Hospitals. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Idaho Falls since 1971. He and Martha enjoyed swimming, bird watching, gardening, planting trees, playing bridge, dancing and music, traveling, friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and a brother, and a sister.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. September 27, 2011, at the First Presbyterian Church, 325 Elm Street, with Reverend Tom Wiley officiating. Military Rites will be held at the church following the service. The family will visit with friends from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, prior to the Memorial Services, at the Church.
