William Arlo Trost

William Arlo Trost, 83, of Idaho Falls, passed away March 24, 2011 at his home from heart failure. Arlo was born at the home of his grandparents on December 25, 1927 in Richmond, Utah to William Lawrence Trost and Eda Smith Trost. He grew up on a farm west of Rexburg, Idaho , where he attended schools from 1st to 12th grade. Arlo loved learning and was a good student, always active in many school activities. He lettered in football, was involved in drama classes, and served as Student Body President his senior year. He continued his education at Ricks College for two years, serving as Student Body Vice President. In June of 1952, he graduated from Utah State University with a Master’s degree in zoology and chemistry. Arlo taught school in Rigby, Idaho for three years before going to work at the Department of Energy as a health physicist. He worked for several companies at the Site and retired in 1993 after 36 years in all. In 1947, while attending Ricks College, Arlo met his future wife, Norma Jean Lindsay. After serving an LDS mission to Toronto, Canada, they were married July 28, 1950 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Together they raised four wonderful children and were happily married for 60 years. Arlo was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many callings including home teacher, gospel doctrine teacher, Seventy, councilor in three bishoprics, stake high council, Stake Young Men’s President, and Bishop. He also served in the Idaho Falls Temple as an ordinance worker. After his retirement, he and Norma served a mission to Knoxville, Tennessee. He loved serving in the LDS church. Arlo loved life. He loved to travel, grow a garden, play Rook, but most of all, he loved being with his family and going on vacations with them and attending all their activities. Survivors include his wife Norma of Idaho Falls; son, Phil (Jan) Trost of Linden, UT; daughter, Sue (John) Anderson of Olympia, WA; son, Alan (Trecia) Trost of Idaho Falls; son, Brad (Bari) Trost of Rigby; brothers, Rulon Trost of St. Anthony, Bert Trost of Salt Lake City, UT; and a sister, Norma Lee (Collin)Tanner of Salt Lake City, UT; 19 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Leland, and two sisters-in-law Wanda Trost and Lois Trost. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at the Idaho Falls LDS Temple View Ward (1450 Mountain View Lane) with Gail Bingham officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Wood Funeral Home (273 North Ridge Avenue) and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Rexburg Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
