William Flagler, Sr., 90, of Idaho Falls, passed away Monday, March 25, 2013, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Bill was born April 10, 1922, in Boise, Idaho, to A. Roy & Helen Irene Flagler. He died due to complications of pneumonia.
Bill graduated from Boise High School. Soon after graduation, he joined the Army Air Force. He was released in 1945.
While at the University of Idaho, he married his wife, Helen Jansen, in 1946. He started working for Burroughs as a field engineer in 1948. He remained employed by them until he retired in 1982. He was in the inactive-reserves, and was called up due to the Korean War in 1951.
During his lifetime he was actively involved in Boy Scouts. He had one of the largest scout troops in Salt Lake Valley in the 60’s. He was awarded numerous awards, and held several positions in the Teton Peaks Council; he was given the Hall of Fame, and the Silver Beaver Award. He ran the gun range at the Island Park Scout Camp during the summers, and affectionately was known as, “Wild Bill.”
He volunteered for Shiba, and was a gun safety instructor for Idaho Fish and Game. He also held water safety classes for third-graders. He was a regular blood donor to the Red Cross.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister.
He is survived by his wife, Helen, and
children: William Jr. (JoAnn) Flagler, David (Liz) Flagler, Paul(Kathy) Flagler, and Gail (Wayne) Croft. He has 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Private Graveside Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013, at the Ucon Cemetery.
