Bill was born on April 1, 1947, in Independence, Kansas, to Robert and Carroll (Rankin) Faler. Bill grew up on the family cattle ranch in Elk City, Kansas, where he learned the value of hard work. After graduating from Elk City High School, Bill attended the University of Kansas where he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science in 1969, followed by his Juris Doctorate in 1972.
He married Lorenda Powell in 1969, and the couple made the choice to move to Idaho where Bill was offered a position at a local law firm. The couple had one son, Bradford Faler, and were later divorced. In 1991, Bill married Wendy Crook. Bill later started his own law firm and continued to practice up until his death.
Bill served for five years on the Evidence Rules Committee for the Idaho State Bar and played a substation role in the rewriting of those rules. He has lectured on parts of the Rules of Evidence and document control in complex litigation. He served as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society for 25 years, including a 10 year position as a representative on the National Board of Directors.
Bill had a lifelong love of the outdoors. Almost all outdoor activities interested him, especially golf, fly fishing, camping, skiing, rafting, photography, and scuba diving. He seldom tried a sport he didn’t find enjoyable.
