William (Bill) Brown

BILL BROWN IDAHO FALLS, ID -- William Dean “Bill” Brown, 82, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away January 21, 2007, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his family, with his loving wife, Betty, by his side. Bill was born November 13, 1924, in Kaysville, Utah, to George W. Brown and Myrtle Catherine Green Brown. He attended Grant Elementary School, Horace Mann Jr. High, and graduated from South High School. He also attended Utah State University on a basketball scholarship. He married Betty Jean Caughie March 2, 1972, in Elko, Nevada. After Bill achieved complete sobriety on July 13, 1977, he went to work and became a drug and alcohol abuse counselor for the Alcoholic Rehabilitation Association (ARA). Through his experience, strength and hope, he helped countless alcoholics and addicts achieve sobriety, which was his greatest joy. Bill retired in 2003 with almost 30 years of sobriety. Bill was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Bill loved and cherished his family as well as enjoying flying the Corsair, which he did for the U. S. Navy during World War II. Bill graduated third in his class of 100 cadets. His hobbies included bowling, fishing, camping and keno tournaments. Bill is survived by his lovely wife, Betty Jean Brown, his children Chris (Laurene) Brown, Roger D. Brown, Blaine L. (Patty) Brown, Marsha A. (Doug) Curtis, 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, his brother, Gary G. (LaDean) Brown, sister-in-law, Eiko Brown, and he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard L. Brown. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 27, 2007, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge. The family will visit with friends Friday from 7 to 8:30 p. m. and Saturday for one hour prior to the services, both at Wood Funeral Home Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery, Idaho Falls, under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
