Click Here To View Memorial Video Wilberta “Berde” Lorraine Peterson Melendez had the fortune of Graduating from Life at on the 15th of April 2013. She can now be with her son, Monte, who died shortly after his birth. She will be missed and is loved by so many. Berde was born August 6, 1943 in Idaho Falls. She attended modeling and dance school in Idaho Falls. She married Robert Melendez on May 7, 1960, at Chapel of the Pines, Island Park, Idaho. Together they worked locally and had a cabin in Island Park. Her girls, Debi and Natalie found a small skunk they revived and raised. She became an expert water skier and hunter, killing three elk. She won a trophy for water skiing. She also loved to downhill ski and trail ride on the horses. Later she became a paralegal and worked for EG&G. Then she bought her own flower shop, Country Florist and Gift Shop. Berde excelled in the flower shop and did the contract for the hospital addition. After selling her flower shop she bought a nice sports car she drove around with a big smile on her face. They sold their cabin in Island Park and bought another one in Palisades. She and Bob traveled to Alaska several times. Bob was a pilot so they flew many places together, e.g. Jackpot, Nevada, and Orange County, Los Angeles, California. They lived in Ammon then Iona. They bought ground on the South Fork where she and Bob designed and built their dream home. They traveled to Canada on their road bikes. They flew to Alaska several times, fishing, traveling to Anchorage and taking charters out of Homer, Alaska. Her recent accomplishment was going down 7 zip lines at Heise, and remembering what it was about life she loved, the spontaneous adventures. Berde was always the first to catch a fish. She loved her girls and all her grand kids and great grand kids. She also purchased and collected art and bought and sold on eBay. She mastered the computer on her own and was on Facebook having fun on Café World. Every morning she would do the word puzzles in the Post Register. She touched many lives and the ones that knew her loved her charm, inspiration, and spirit. She is survived by her loving husband Bob Melendez of Ririe; daughter, Natalie Melendez Abbas of Frederick, MD; daughter, Debra Barkle of Randleman, NC; bothers, Jim Peterson and Cody Peterson; 2 sisters; her grandkids: Robert and Stephanie Hyland, Sasha Kohler, Miriah, Jakob, Haven, and Carl Barkle; and her great grand kids: Abigail and Kain Randall, Traya, Jarek, Kaivin, and Mason Kohler. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge. A visitation will be from 7-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, and from 10-10:45 prior to services. Burial will be in Ririe Cemetery.
