Werner Manfred Schmitt, 59, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away November 1, 2016, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

Werner was born January 22,1957, in Idaho Falls at Sacred Heart Hospital to Sylvester Werner Schmitt and Irene Franziska Stockmann Schmitt. He attended Terreton Elementary and graduated from West Jefferson High School in May of 1975. At graduation, he received the Dan Moore Memorial Scholarship to attend the Idaho Falls Technical College obtaining an auto mechanics certificate. His passion for the family farm inspired him to become a heavy equipment operator.

Up until the 1980s he lived his life on the family farm in Monteview. Within his family he was trusted as the stack wagon operator for his great ability. He enjoyed watching the crops grow underneath the beautiful Lemhi Range. Throughout the years Werner had 9 children, 6 of his own and 3 step-children. He loved spending time with all of the kids and grandkids. Werner enjoyed life with his family and friends. He was passionate about camping at Birch Creek, fishing, dirt bike riding, snowmobiling, and shooting the ol’ 30-30. His heart always took him back to the family farm to be with his brother Willy and other family members and friends.

He was baptized and confirmed at the St. Ann's Catholic Church in Mud Lake and recently enjoyed attending holiday services with his family at the Watersprings Church.

Werner is survived by his daughter, Jessie Blake of Bremerton, WA; daughter, Jamie (Travis) Schmitt of Myrtle Beach, SC; son, Shawn (Jennifer) Schmitt of Ammon, ID; son, Michael (Tabbatha) Schmitt of Minneapolis, MN; daughter, Alicia Schmitt of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Jake (Jill) Xavier of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Joanna (Tim) Xavier-Bromley of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Emily Xavier of Twin Falls, ID; brother, Norbert (Diane) Schmitt of Nottingham, England; brother, Willy (Terry) Schmitt of Monteview, ID; sister, Monika (Greg) Shook of Idaho Falls, ID; 11 grandchildren and many lifelong friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dylan Werner Schmitt; and most recently his companion, Candy Ellis-Howard.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, November 5, 2016, at Watersprings Church (4250 S. 25th E., Ammon) with Pastor Scotty Brown officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 6-8:00 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home (273 North Ridge Avenue, Idaho Falls) and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon prior to services at the church. Burial will follow at the West Jefferson Cemetery in Terreton with a luncheon to follow at the Terreton ALC Administration building (1272 E. 1500 N. Terreton).

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to West Jefferson Senior Citizen Center, 1075 East 1500 North, Terreton, Idaho 83450.

Ridge) and Saturday 10:30 a.m.-12 noon at the church. Burial will be in the West Jefferson Cemetery in Terreton.
