Wendell Humphries

Wendell Humphries, 85, passed away, December 18, 2010, at Turtle and Crane Assisted Living Center of natural causes. He was under the care of Creekside Home Health and Hospice. Wendell was born March 11, 1925, in Shelley, Idaho, to Harold Humphries and Ora May Chaffin Humphries. He grew up and attended schools in the Shelley area until he was drafted into the U.S. Army before he could graduate from high school. He later received his GED. Wendell served in the U. S. Army as a Staff Sergeant during World War II at the mere age of 19. He was discharged in April, 1946, and received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart distinctions. Wendell married Nina Mae Janzen July 6, 1944, in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple. They started their family of five children and he worked as a farmer and mechanical engineer. They have lived in Shelley, Ammon, and Idaho Falls. Wendell was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a High Priest. Wendell enjoyed exploring the outdoors and learning about the local and regional history. He also enjoyed reading, snowmobiling, horsemanship, and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren teaching them wilderness stewardship. He is survived by his wife, Nina of Idaho Falls; Son, Mike (Jackie) Humphries of Ammon, ID; Daughter, Patricia (Fred) Trussell of Albuquerque, NM; Daughter, Kathy (Wayne) Virgil-Belding of Rexburg, ID; Daughter, Cindy (Anthony) Krukowski of Beachwood, NJ; Daughter, Laurie (Richard) Field of Idaho Falls, ID; Brothers, Wayne Humphries of Shelley, ID; Brother, Elden Humphries of Ogden, UT; Brother, Eugene Humphries of Shelley, ID; Sister, Joan Hodapp of Manti, UT; 19 Grandchildren and 24 Great Grandchildren. Graveside Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at Fielding Memorial Park with Bishop Mike Phippen of the Idaho Falls LDS Woodruff Second Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday prior to the services, also at Wood East Side. Casual dress is requested. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests sending a Living Memorial Gift to the Madison Memorial Hospital Foundation for Children’s Services.
