Wendell Bunnell

Wendell Lee Bunnell, 81, of Idaho Falls, passed away July 26, 2010, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was under the care of Aspen Home Health and Hospice. Wendell was born November 28, 1929, in Castle Dale, Utah, to Lee Bunnell and Aurora Kathinka Burk Bunnell. He attended high school at Wells, Nevada and college at Brigham Young University. He married Verna Eunice Knudsen June 9, 1948, in the Mesa, Arizona LDS Temple. She passed away July 28, 2008. They made their home in Provo, UT; Cedar City, UT; Lander, WY; Rexburg, Nampa, and finally Idaho Falls. Wendell was a mechanical design engineer and he worked for U. S. Steel Corp. until he retired. He then worked for the Simplot Company at various locations as a Design Engineering Consultant. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in various capacities including Bishop and in the Stake Presidency. He enjoyed woodworking, model trains, leatherwork, metalwork, gardening, fly fishing, operating his ham radio, and could be called upon to be a stand-up comedian/MC of various community and church activities. He especially enjoyed being with his family and grandchildren. He is survived by : Son, Randall Bunnell of Salt Lake City, UT; Daughter, Jolene (David) Wortham of Lucas, TX; Daughter, LeeAnn (Charles) Gibbs of Scottsdale, AZ; Daughter, Marilyn (Blake) Hansen of San Carlos, CA; Son, David (Tonya) Bunnell of Idaho Falls, ID; Sister, Mona Low of Rexburg, ID; Sister, Carol (Ross) Clements of Rexburg, ID; 19 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren He was preceded in death by his wife, Verna, and a sister, Pauline Chase. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 2010, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, with Bishop James Barnes, of the Ammon LDS Brookview Ward, officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10 to 10:45 a.m., both at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park.
