Wendell Baker

Wendell Milo Baker, 92, of Ammon, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, surrounded by family. Wendell was born in Beaver, Utah, on September 7, 1924, oldest son of Milo and Naomi Larsen Baker. They were a musical family and he played baritone horn, cello and piano. He also sang bass with a number of male quartets. He served in the U.S. Army for three years during World War II and was a staff sergeant in Germany and a court reporter on a War Crimes Investigating Team. He graduated from Utah State University in 1949 and did postgraduate work at Tulane University in New Orleans. He married Lois Anne Rennie in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple on September 10, 1953. They were the parents of four children — Larry (Chris) Baker of Salem, Oregon, James Baker of Idaho Falls, Steven (Brenda) Baker of Kaysville, Utah, and Carol (John) Christensen of West Jordan, Utah. Wendell worked as a bookkeeper at Clark Concrete, First Federal Savings and Loan, Tandy and Wood and Business Management Service. He was active in the LDS Church, serving as ward clerk to seven different bishops and stake clerk for two Stake Presidents. He served four two-year stake missions, and as High Priest secretary. He is survived by his four children, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three brothers, Gordon, Lynn and Nolan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, his parents and his sister, Joan Hughes. Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the Ammon LDS 18th Ward, 4363 East 17th Street. The family will meet with friends from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery with Military Rites performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
