WELDON JOHNSON IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Weldon E Johnson, 86, of Idaho Falls, passed away February 6, 2009, at Mount Vernon Assisted Living. He was under the care of Aspen Hospice. He was born January 30, 1923, in Ovid, Idaho, to Ezra Abraham Johnson and Viola Christine Peterson Johnson. He graduated from Fielding High School in Paris, Idaho. He served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. He served on the USS Roi Navy Conserv. 7th Fleet, USS Blue Ridge, USS Catoctin, ATBLC, Va; USS Ancon, attended radio school in San Franscico and graduated as a radio operator. His medals include: American, Victory, World War II, Philippine Liberation, Asiatic-Pacific, and the Chinese Ribbon. On December 17, 1955, he married Shirley M. Beck in Ketchum. They had two children together and were later divorced. He worked as a farmer, a heavy equipment operator, and for Union Pacific Railroad. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He lived in the Bear Lake area for 79 years, moving to Idaho Falls seven years ago to be near his children. He enjoyed football and boxing. Weldon was passionate about music, and was able to play any stringed instrument. He entertained individually and with bands at many civic and church events playing and singing country music. Survivors include: Daughter: Peggy Lee (Craig) Dale, Idaho Falls, ID Son: Tim Weldon Johnson, Mt. Vernon , WA Brother: Wayne (Julie) Johnson, Ovid, ID 7 Grandchildren & 15 Great-Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 9, 2009, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road. The family will visit with friends Monday from 1 to 1:45 p.m. prior to services at Wood East Side. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Memorial Veterans Team and the Idaho Honor Guard. ----------------------------------------------------
