Wayne H. Sermon - 10/10/2001 Wayne H. Sermon - 10/10/2001 WAYNE H. SERMON AMERICAN FORK, UT -- Wayne Harold Sermon, 87, passed away at 1:15 a.m. on October 9, 2001 at his son’s home in American Fork, Utah, after a long heroic battle with cancer. Wayne was born November 21, 1913 in Ririe, Idaho to Henry Sermon, Jr. and Louise Elizabeth Busch Sermon. He attended grammar schools in Swan Valley and Ririe, and graduated from Idaho Falls High School. He was a boxer during and after his high school years. He was raised on family farms in Ririe and Swan Valley before purchasing his own farm lands in Swan Valley, where he raised crops, cattle, and six children. Wayne always said that if he had a million dollars he’d keep on farming until it was gone. So, in 1970, he moved his family to Idaho Falls, where he became a contract mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, thereby obtaining the funds to continue hobby farming in Swan Valley. He delivered mail from Idaho Falls to Alpine, Wyoming until his family finally convinced him to retire in 1993, at the age of 83, but he never really retired from farming. Wayne married Ellen Alavon Nichols in Menan, Idaho on August 12, 1943. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on August 12, 1958. Together they enjoyed performing music in a local dance orchestra, instilling a love of music in their children that continues with their grand children. They enjoyed performing skits and writing and directing award winning road shows. They also served an LDS mission at the Idaho Falls Temple. Wayne was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Alavon Sermon, his younger brother Robert Sermon, and his parents. He is survived by: son Brad (Leslie) Sermon, West Jordan, Utah; son Randy (Kathy) Sermon, Lehi, Utah; son Jeff (Debbie) Sermon, American Fork, Utah; son John (Tracy) Sermon, American Fork, Utah; daughter Tami (Layne) Barber, Idaho Falls; daughter Wendy Peterson, Idaho Falls, Idaho; 25 grand children and 9 great-grand children, brother Frank Sermon, Shelley, Idaho; sisters Jean Payne of Jackson, Wyoming and Rita Casper of Idaho Falls, Idaho. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, October 13, 2001, at the Idaho Falls LDS Lincoln Stake Center, 2545 Mesa Drive (off Hitt Road, north of 1st Street), with Bishop Kim Buck officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Ave. in Idaho Falls, and Saturday from 11 a.m. until services begin at the Lincoln Stake Center.
