Wayne Schneider

Wayne Porter Schneider, 87, of Idaho Falls, passed away August 30, 2016, at his home of natural causes. He was under the care of his loving family and Hands of Hope Hospice. Wayne was born June 15, 1929, in Bancroft, Idaho, to Ephraim Christian Schneider and Clara Dubach Schneider. He grew up and attended schools in Lewisville, Idaho, and graduated from Midway High School. Wayne proudly served his country as a Motor Sergeant Second Class in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. In later years he served many years as Chaplain of the American Legion Post in Idaho Falls and coordinated the military rites provided for veterans in Bonneville County. Wayne was devoted to this work and was highly respected amongst his colleagues and peers. On January 29, 1952, he married Carol Nelson in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Wayne and Carol made their home in Idaho Falls, where they raised their five children, Becky, Chris, Jerry, Brent, and Scott. Wayne worked at Smith Chevrolet as service manager and was there for nearly thirty years. He went on to work for the City of Idaho Falls Sanitation and Transportation Departments until he retired. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served as Scoutmaster, Sunday School President, Ward Executive Secretary, and home teacher. He enjoyed puttering around the house and repairing lawnmowers. Wayne was a kind and gentle spirit who enjoyed helping others. He will be missed. Wayne is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carol Schneider of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Becky Schneider of Idaho Falls, ID, son, Chris (Kelly) Schneider of McCall, ID, son, Jerry (Ximena) Schneider of Idaho Falls, ID, son, Brent (Kerrie) Schneider of Meridian, ID, son, Scott (Lori) Schneider of Idaho Falls, ID, 20 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and fifteen siblings. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 3, 2016, at Idaho Falls LDS Central Stake Center, 2025 Jennie Lee Drive, with Bishop Mark Argyle of the 28th Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, and from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in the Iona Cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
