Warren Albert Safford

Warren Albert Safford, 74, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away January 8, 2023.

Warren was born November 16, 1948, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Lowell Albert Safford and Marie Murdoch Safford. He grew up and attended schools in Lorenzo, Idaho, and graduated from Rigby High School. He later attended the Police Academy and became an officer for the Idaho Falls Police Department. He had several law enforcement opportunities to serve, which included work on the Narcotics Task Force and undercover police responsibilities.

He married Kay Mehner and they had one son, Tate. They later divorced. He then married Kriss Hollingsworth, and together they raised Angie. They later divorced. On August 15, 1992, he married Elaine Kunz Safford, in Pocatello, Idaho, adding a daughter, Amanda, to their family. Warren and Elaine made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where Warren worked at Westinghouse Electric Corp Naval Reactors as a Security Officer and Emergency Planning Coordinator.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed cooking, baking, history, woodworking, he was an avid “gun nut” and firearms expert, a musician, and singer.

Warren is survived by his loving wife, Elaine Kunz Safford of Idaho Falls, Idaho; son, Tate (Alison) Safford of Fredricksburg, Maryland; daughter, Angie (Paul) Manning of Idaho Falls, Idaho; daughter, Amanda (Travis Smith) Kunz of Whitehall, Montana; seven grandchildren, Shae, Kylee, Cody, Paige, Sean, Thea Kay, and Taya; and six great-grandchildren, Myah, Alijah, Emma, Rowan, Sophia, and Matix.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lowell Albert and Marie Murdoch Safford.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge). The family will visit with friends from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services.
