Our angelic matriarch, the “Rock” of the Radford clan, has made her final journey. Making her way into the world on July 2, 1923, in the Hunting log cabin in Menan, Idaho, her parents George Hunting and Rhoda Harmon Hunting, welcomed this treasure they named Wanda Darlene Hunting.
Wanda attended schools in Rigby where she excelled at shorthand and bookkeeping, both were of great benefit all her life. After high school she married Blain Radford. A hard worker, Wanda ran the farm while her husband worked off the farm to supplement their income. Seven children were born to this union, Lana, Terry, Neil, Reed, Leon, GaeLynne, and Kent.
Wanda’s life was one of charity. Her concern was never about herself. In her life, everyone else came first. She was a nurse to her husband for the last ten years of his life. When he died on June 14, 1977, she filled her time being Relief Society President, doing genealogy, extraction, going to every temple dedication she could (she attended the Idaho Falls Temple dedication in 1945), attending grandchildren’s activities, and numerous other things, including growing and canning hundreds of jars of food and giving it away. An excellent seamstress, she made 18 large quilts for family members in 1979, as well as many small quilts and dozens of dolls and dresses.
In 1984, she married Wayne Harris, and was able to enjoy traveling for a short time until he became ill. She was his nurse until he died in 1991. Her family, friends, dancing, crafts, music, entertaining, cooking, and anything outdoors were some of her passions. In 1992 she married Walter Weeks. He died in 2002. Wanda took on the role of nurse when needed for him. In her younger days, she took on the task of helping her son roof a house. In her 70's Wanda was still climbing trees to pick fruit. At 90, she was planting and tending her flowers. Legally deaf and blind, mind sharp as a tack, she continued to oversee the farm, keep records, write in a journal daily, crochet hundreds of items, or did anything to keep busy.
A kind, gentle soul, she never raised her voice even in hard or difficult times or trials in her life. Her Christ-like attributes of love, patience, tolerance, and being non-judgmental touched the lives of all that knew her. We thank God that he allowed us to have this angel.
Wanda passed on April 19, 2015, at her daughter’s home, surrounded by family members. She is survived by daughter, Lana Muma; sons, Terry (Fae), Reed (Carol), Leon (Elaine), Kent; step-daughter, Jeannette (Lewis) Miller; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her three husbands, Blain Radford, Wayne Harris, and Walter Weeks; daughter, GaeLynne; son, Neil; son-in-law, Gordon Muma; grandsons, Blain Muma and Brent Radford; granddaughter, Marcia Muma; her parents; two sisters; and one brother.
