Walter Wilson Rohweder, 99, a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend passed away peacefully on July 30th at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. He was born December 1, 1912 at Akeley, Minnesota, to John and Maude Rohweder. His mother passed when he was 4 and his father married Geneva Johnson who became the world’s best stepmother. Walt grew up in Westby, Montana where he graduated from high school. It was while in high school that he met the love of his life, Helen Jensen, and they married at her parent’s home in 1934. Initially, Walt got a job working at the Fort Peck dam in Montana and in 1939 he was transferred to Sitka, Alaska working for the Corp of Engineers. A year later he was transferred to Juneau, Alaska as a civilian liaison officer with the US Armies 42nd Engineer Regiment. From there he moved to Seattle, Washington, continuing to work with the Corp of Engineers and ultimately ending up in Idaho Falls in 1952 working at INEEL for 20 years in the property management field and retiring from there in 1972. He and Helen had three children – Robert Dale born in 1936 who died in infancy; Richard Walter born in 1938 who died in 2011, and Carol Jane born in 1945. Walt enjoyed bowling, playing bridge with dear friends, dancing with Helen, stamp collecting fishing, traveling and was known for his sharp wit and sense of humor. He was an Able Toastmaster, a long time member of the Elks Lodge, and a volunteer many years at the Museum of Idaho. He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church having served many years in various positions. He is survived by his wife, Helen Rohweder of Idaho Falls; his daughter, Carol (Frank) Jones of Seattle, WA; daughter-in-law, Rosemary Rohweder of Idaho Falls; 5 grandchildren – Richard Walter Rohweder, Jr., Reno, Nevada (currently serving overseas in the Army); Roxane (Jose) Rohweder-Garza, Idaho Falls; Randy (Linda)Rohweder, Idaho Falls; Stephanie (Brandon) Janssen, Arlington, WA and Kimberly Jones, Seattle, WA. In addition he has 10 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, step-sister and 2 sons. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Monday, August 6,2012 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 455 West Sunnyside Road, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. The family will be at the church to meet with friends thirty minutes before the services.
