Walt Ashment

On September 3, 2016, Walt Jim Ashment was returned home to our Heavenly Father at the age of 49 after suffering a major heart attack. Walt was born June 9, 1967, in Afton, Wyoming, the son of Theron Rex Ashment and Carol Emily Ball Ashment, both from Swan Valley, Idaho. Walt spent his childhood working on the family farm raising beef stock and milking dairy cows. On June 20, 1997, Walt married the love of his life, Teresa Josephine Swisher, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Together they raised their four beautiful children on the same family farm where he grew up. Walt spent much of his time outdoors. He enjoyed snowmachining, riding ATVs, camping, and boating. Walt had many talents: he was a jack-of-all-trades and a master of nothing. Of all the things he enjoyed, making memories and spending time with his family is what he loved most. Walt is survived by his wife: Teresa Ashment; five children: Andrea Ashment, age 18, Jeff Ashment, age 17, Mathew Ashment, age 15, Jessica Ashment, age 13, and Walt Jr. Correia, age 29, all of Rigby; seven siblings, Lauri (Randy) Guthrie of West Richland, WA; Tammy (Scott) Wills of Idaho Falls, ID; Randy (Barbara) Ashment of Firth, ID; Michele (Jack) Swisher of Rexburg, ID; Blaine Ashment of Idaho Falls, ID; John and Destani Swisher of Teton, ID; and Theron Ashment of Rigby, ID; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his mother, Carol Ashment, a sister, Connie Yasuda, and a brother, Jeff Ashment. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 9, 2016, at the Swan Valley LDS Palisade Ward, with Blair Jacobson officiating. The family will visit with friends from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
