W. Rick Horne

If you can define a man by the things he loved most in life, then Rick Horne was a man of motorcycles, ice cream, and napping in his recliner with the History Channel playing in the background. He took great pride in his 40-year career at the INL and made sure he had the nicest yard on the block. But, of course, you can't get to the true heart of a person with a list of hobbies and interests. What mattered most were the people he loved, those who loved him back, and the wisdom and meaning he brought into their lives.

A man of principles, Rick was adamant about respecting others above all else. He valued the importance of a firm handshake, a smile, and 'please' and 'thank you.' As a loyal and fierce friend, he stood up for those he cared about, always ready to protect them whenever he could. As a grandfather, his grandchildren were the center of his world. As a father, he was the kind of man who made sure the oil was changed, the tires were rotated, and always wanted to know you made it home safely. And until his very last moment, he was an adoring husband, leaving this world in the arms of his loving wife, surrounded by members of his family. Rick left his mark on the world in a million small ways. From anonymously buying meals for military members in restaurants, to offering his home to friends in need, to creating lasting memories on motorcycle rides and family trips to Disneyland. Those fortunate enough to know him met a man who, beneath a tough exterior, was built on kindness, loyalty, and love. He will be deeply missed.
