Vosco Lee Rash, 90, passed away peacefully, surrounded by is family at home in West Valley City, Utah on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025.
Vosco was born on February 14, 1935, to Emma Lee Dunn and Vosco Martin Rash. Vosco attended schools in Rigby, Idaho. He had rheumatic fever every year when he was in school. He would miss school for about a month each year. Friends, neighbors and family would bring him all kinds of things to read as well as his homework. From this moment he developed his love for reading. He loved the western stories, the places books could take him, and he was a fast reader.
He started working at 12 and worked at JC Penny’s. At 14 he worked at Broulim’s. At 16 he worked at Conoco service station, and Broulim’s in Rigby. There was always a dance in Idaho Falls or in school and he loved to dance and chase women. He managed the school football team, and was manager of the school newspaper. He enjoyed acting and was in the Drama club. He graduated from Rigby High School and Seminary in 1953. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. That Fall he attended Ricks College with a full ride scholarship.
He met Janice Olsen (the boss of his life) at a stake Gold and Green Ball in Ririe. They were engaged in August 1953, and married on July 16, 1954 in the Idaho Falls temple. He joined the Army Security Agency in September 1955 and was stationed in Fort Devons, Massachusetts. He worked as Company Clerk for 3 years. After being discharged from the Army, he worked several different jobs including as a bookkeeper for a potato plant, at Idaho Savings and Loan, and owned his own computer business. He always understood technology and loved computers. They settled in Idaho Falls, Idaho on North Boulevard. He worked for and retired from District 93 in maintenance. He was called with Janice on a couple’s mission in 2007 to Indianapolis, Indiana, where he had many fulfilling and interesting experiences. Vosco loved the outdoors, camping and hiking, and was an accomplished wood worker. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix. He was a perfectionist and loved country music.
Vosco and Janice went to McDonald’s every morning for breakfast, made good friends, and enjoyed every minute of it. They moved with their daughter in 2015 to Herriman, Utah, and had many more adventures. He loved to just take a drive following all the back roads, and he used to say he was “The Old Pathfinder”.
Vosco is survived by his wife, Janice Olsen; and five children, Richard (TeriLyn) Rash, Vosco Bryan (Karen) Rash, Steven (Karen) Rash, Elizabeth (Todd) Matta, and Kris (Michelle) Rash; 15 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vosco Martin Rash and Emma Lee Dunn; a brother, Dale; and a sister-in-law, Santa.
It was a great blessing to his family to care for him in his last days. He loved having his nails and hair done by his granddaughters and he loved to laugh.
