Virginia Serigstad

Virginia Hazel Velguth Serigstad, 93, of Ammon, passed away May 3, 2014, at The Gables of Idaho Falls Assisted Living Center, under the care of her family and Hospice of Eastern Idaho. Born April 24, 1921, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Bernard O. Velguth and Madeline A. Berry Velguth, Virginia grew up in Seattle, Washington, where she went to school and college. She then moved to Los Angeles, California, where she met her husband. She married Norman Raymond Serigstad, a most handsome man, April 4, 1943, in Los Angeles. They had two children and moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. They later returned to California and then came to Idaho Falls to be near their daughter. A secretary in her youth, Virginia was a wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. Norman passed away November 9, 2005, just before their 63rd wedding anniversary. Virginia kept a whimsical newspaper clipping from 1984 about Johnny Weissmuller, the original “Tarzan,” who died that year. A tape of his famous jungle cry was played as his casket was lowered into the ground. This was Virginia’s humor! We’re sending her off with a yell of “she lived a full life!” She traveled extensively, playing golf all over the world with her beloved husband. Virginia was a great planner, even in death. She wasn’t one for long good-byes and passed peacefully and quickly so her family could get on with her great granddaughter’s prom plans – but not before seeing and touching the dress. Virginia loved her family and was affectionately called “GG.” She left us a legacy of her great sense of humor, fervor for the arts, and a zest to enjoy life to its fullest. There once was a girl from Idaho. Who left for reasons we don’t know. After 79 years she came back here to “spawn” She said this, really no lie! After 14 more years of adventures and joy... She was, at 93 years, content to say “goodbye.” This was Virginia’s quip. God bless her! And, in reflection, may we as her family continue to understand her complicated, but fun personality. Virginia was a member of the Roman Catholic Church and was a Red Cross and Republican Party volunteer. In addition to travel and golf, she also enjoyed crafts and playing Bridge. Virginia is survived by her daughter, Chris (Bob) Hanson of Ammon, ID, son, Jon N. (Nancy) Serigstad of Aptos, CA, her brother, Edward (Ted) Velguth of Prescott, AZ, four grandchildren, Davin (Amy) Hanson of Idaho Falls, Serina (Josh) Cunningham of Idaho Falls, Arnold (Natalie) Serigstad of Santa Cruz, CA, and Jorine (Scott) Peterson of Ft. Collins, CO. She has six great grandchildren, Makayla, Shai, and Jaydon Cunningham; and Gabe, Sam, and Naomi Hanson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, Paul Velguth, Jack Velguth, and Dick Velguth. Private Family Services will be held with burial in the Ammon Cemetery.
