Ida Virginia Likes, 92, of Idaho Falls, passed away April 18, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Virginia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose faith and compassion touched the lives of everyone who knew her.
Virginia was born August 27, 1932, in Poplar (Ririe), Idaho, to James Ray Fisher and Ida Arreva Wheeler Fisher. She lived in Ririe until she was 11 years old and they moved to Idaho Falls. She skipped one grade in school and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in May 1949.
On July 16, 1949, she married John Acy Likes in Salmon, Idaho. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on December 14, 1963.
John and Virginia made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where Virginia was a devoted mother and homemaker for many years. She started working in the lunch program for District 91 when her youngest girls (twins) began school. She developed relationships with many of the students, some who still keep in touch. She retired in 1994 so she could help watch grandchildren while their parents worked. She loved her family very much and was grateful to be able to spend so much time with her grandchildren.
She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a deep love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In her later years, she was willing to share her testimony often with others. She was Sunday School Secretary in her ward for over 30 years and had other callings in Primary and Relief Society. She really enjoyed her Blazer B boys.
She enjoyed crafts of all sorts. She taught herself to quilt and made many quilts for her children and grandchildren, among others. The last few years, when she was unable to get around easily, she would sit and crochet afghans for family and friends. She also enjoyed embroidery. In recent years, her daughter-in-law, Jennie, spent many hours helping her with finishing quilting projects, rolling yarn, and assisting her with daily tasks. Jennie also helped her write her life history and other genealogical endeavors.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed many genres, with historical romance being her favorite. She also enjoyed building things and helping with painting projects. When she decided she wanted a root cellar, she started digging it with a garden shovel. There was no stopping her once she put her mind to something. She was very proud of that root cellar.
Virginia is survived by her children, Richard (Jennie) Likes, Cyndi Likes, Steven (Becky) Likes, Tami (Scott) Douglass, Trina Davenport; daughter-in-law, Karen Likes; sisters, Gladys Warren and Ruby Olsen; brothers, Lee (Brigitte) Fisher and Joseph (Michele) Fisher; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, J. Ray and Arreva Fisher; husband, John; daughter, Kristal; son, Blair; grandson, Anthony Davenport; sisters, Alice Mansfield and Lila Potter; and brother, James Dwayne Fisher.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the Idaho Falls 11th Ward, 1235 Juniper Drive. The family will visit with friends Friday from 6:30-8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue, and Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church.
