Virgie Holverson

Virgie Joe Hodge Holverson, 75, of Idaho Falls, passed away March 25, 2011, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center with her daughters by her side. Virgie was born June 30, 1935, in Bozeman, Montana, the third child of John Hodge and Katie Goodwin Hodge. Her father traveled where the work took him, so she grew up in many different states, attending different schools along the way. On September 8, 1951, she married the love of her life, Don Edwin Holverson, in Idaho Falls, and they were later sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on March 23, 1974. Together they raised seven children. Don and Virgie were married for 59 years and passed away within six weeks of each other. They will be spending their 60th wedding anniversary together after all. She worked in the potatoes as a truck driver and sorter, as waitress, a prep cook at North Hi-Way Café, and retired as a special needs bus driver for Idaho Falls School District #91. Virgie loved her job as a special needs bus driver and took the job seriously, learning some sign language to communicate with "her" kids. She loved the kids and the kids loved her. Virgie was a member of the Idaho Falls Sweet Adelines for many years. In the early 80's she was appointed by Mayor Tom Campbell to serve on the committee of the Idaho Falls Sister City, Tokai-Mura, Japan. She was also a member of the Idaho Falls Eagles Lodge. She enjoyed board games, Yahtzee, Bingo, playing Pinochle, going to Fort Hall and taking a yearly trip to Jackpot, Nevada, with her daughters and daughters-in-law. This year would have been the 23rd consecutive year for their "sister" trip. Mom loved her family and took pride in all of their accomplishments. Survivors include her children, Don "Clip" (Jane) Holverson; Kurt (Jolene) Holverson; Scott (Rhonda) Holverson; Kay (Milt) Montague; Kandie (Colin) Howard; Lisa (Kenny) Nield; and Josh (Dani) Holverson all of Idaho Falls, ID; 32 grandchildren; 49 great grandchildren; her uncle, Ken Hodge, and step-brother, Larry Roy, both of Flint, MI. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers, John and Ken, a sister, Marlene, and a step-sister, Pat. The family would like to thank the emergency room staff at EIRMC, especially Dr. Cross and Britney, who stood by our side until the end. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 2011, at the Idaho Falls LDS North Stake Center, 955 Memorial Drive, with Bishop Cloyd Jones of the Idaho Falls LDS 18th Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue, and Thursday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
