Violet Deloris Campbell Higgs, 83, of Idaho Falls, passed away June 7, 2016, at her home of complications due to kidney failure, surrounded by her loving husband of 65 years and her family. Violet was born June 21, 1932, in Ogden, Utah, to Joseph Hyrum Campbell and Florence Ellen Byrne Campbell, welcomed into the family by her older sisters, Helen and Elva. She grew up and attended schools in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School. She completed additional training at Wilton Cake Decorating in Chicago. On September 15, 1950, she married Thomas William Higgs in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Anxious for children, she had six children in eight years (all single births), with two born in the years 1952 and 1956. Violet was a stay at home Mom. Ensuring that her children were never wakened by a buzzer, she would sing them awake with her beautiful voice and a medley of primary or 1950 tunes. She always had breakfast ready. Violet was extremely creative, decorating cakes for weddings and special occasions and decorating rooms for weddings, church functions, or seasonal activities. Very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Violet served as Primary Chorister for over 15 years, also as a Primary teacher, Young Women Camp Director, Cub Scout Leader for over ten years, and was a dedicated visiting teacher. An accomplished seamstress, Violet shared that talent by teachings others to sew as a 4-H Leader. She created thousands of craft items and sold them in her annual craft sale at her home, one of the first before it became widely popular. She won First Place Ribbons in the Idaho State Fair for cake decorating and sewing entries. Violet enjoyed traveling all over the United States, Canada, Mexico, and twice to Europe, but she especially enjoyed loving and supporting her husband, children, and grandchildren. Violet is survived by her husband, Thomas Higgs; five children, Karen Ann Rhodes of Idaho Falls, ID, Linda Gail (Thomas) Howell of Chester, ID, Thomas William (Sirena) Higgs of Kaysville, UT, Eron Roy (Cynthia) Higgs of Kettle Falls, WA, and Brian Dee (Barbara) Higgs of Burley, ID; a sister, Elva Stain of Roy, UT; and 25 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Diane Kay Higgs, and her sister, Helen Idol.
